Once you make the decision to start your own marketing business, your attention needs to turn to advertising a network marketing business in whatever way you feel it can be successful. Old stand bys such as newspapers, radio and television have shown limited success with the basic theory being that if you want to attract online customers, you will need to advertise online.

Online advertising is not cheap and finding the right websites on which to post your ads can be confusing, as you will want to reach potential customers who have an interest in the product or service you are selling. The shotgun approach has been used by many businesses, which involves sending out messages in all directions to enough people, hoping to hit a few. This can be a waste of time and effort, not to mention money, and the anti spam laws are limiting how you can reach potential customers without offending them.

One method several successful businesses are using is affiliate marketing. By accepting websites who are willing to sell advertising space on a per sale basis enables you to leverage your web site advertising and not pay for it until you realize results. Typically, an affiliate will place your ad on their site free of charge with the understanding that if a lead from that site results in a sale for you, he will receive a sales commission based on the sales.

Utilizing this method can put your ad in front of a diverse group of web surfers without the typical up front cost of advertising and if yours is a reputable, well know business, the affiliate gets the extra recognition as a legitimate entity by having an association with such a company. Surfers on the internet will not know the advertising is placed there on an if come basis, if the sale happens, payment will come, and believe that site must be pretty good if you are willing to advertise with them.

You can be specific about which sites your name is associate with and have great control over which sites you do not want your ads posted on. By working with an affiliate marketing company they will even track all the visits and sales coming from each of the affiliates who agree to carry your advertising message. While this may be similar to the shotgun approach of shooting your message into space, the biggest difference is the cost as it costs you nothing unless you see results. This makes this approach a true results based endeavor.

Additionally, over time you can trim the number of affiliates you associate with by rooting out the ones whose visitors never visit your site and then gear your advertising to types of sites whose visitors do show an interest in your product or service.

The internet has provided innumerable avenues for businesses to grow. Now thanks to concentrated sites like Craigslist, promoting a business is easier than ever and reaches more potential clients than ever before. This site, when correctly used, has the potential to help even the smallest businesses see their business grow exponentially, and it helps the larger business continue to compete with their big counterparts. But to effectively use Craigslist, marketing directors and business owners should consider two specific things: their target audience and their marketing strategy.

The Target Audience

Businesses should know who their clients are. They should have an idea in their mind of the ideal client, or in a word, their target audience. Then they should aim to reach that target audience by using the correct advertising category on Craigslist. Craigslist offers free postings to the majority of their clients except for those listing jobs in New York City, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. Thus small business will find their best clients on Craigslist if they just pick the right advertising category.

Consider this: what if a moving company in Portland Oregon posted its advertisement for moving services for a county in Arizona. That just wouldn't make sense. Instead, the moving company should post their advertisement for the counties that they will serve. Thus if I am preparing to move and I check out Craigslist for possible movers, I can easily find this particular company that will serve my needs in my county.

Craigslist also has a plethora of benefits like a huge audience: they boast of over 4 billion hits a month. In the end, though, the number of views really doesn't matter if they're not finding your business in the right spot. So make sure to place your advertisement in the best possible category to reach your ideal customer.

Effective Marketing

A market engineer should use his skills for Craigslist much like he would in any other realm. Great marketing begins with a well written promotional copy, so spend the money and hire a freelance writer who can put together a solid promotion for your company. And then, as stated before, post it in the best possible place on Craigslist. The promotional copy should include information like how to reach your store, how to access your business website, and what specific services your business offers.

Ultimately, a person has all he needs for worldwide promotion the second that he logs onto Craigslist. This site has helped thousands of business not only get started but stay active in the business world, and with a well written promotional copy and correct advertising placement, you will see your business thrive with an investment on Craigslist today.

Making money online seems to be an elusive ability, known only to a selected few who keep raking in dough from other people promising to teach them how to do it. Many complain they are not really taught anything useful, except how to add another charge to their credit card. But, you already know how to do that since you have done it a few times before.

Believe it or not, there are ways to make money online and you will need to analyze your failures to pinpoint the real problem. It could have been the training, or it could have the online company you connected with was only interested in taking your money. Yes, there are a few of those around, and some claim it may be as many as 90 to 95 percent of emailed offers and almost as many that have website promotions.

Examine the program you joined first to determine if it was offering a legitimate product or service and whether it was one that many people needed or wanted. Need is probably more important as want can cause weak sales during an economic downturn. Yes, people may want that new robotic vacuum cleaner for just over $1,000 but if times are tough they will probably go to the discount store for the $50 upright. However, if you sell drastically discounted toilet tissue online, your business is probably safe.

Next take a look at the training you received. Pick up the copies of the training manual you printed out and may be you cannot find them. That could be major part of the problem if you did not bother with the training program or did not understand it, you probably did not follow along the recommended path to success.

Understand before a quality opportunity to make money online is offered, the originators of the program have spent a lot of money developing it, testing it and tweaking it until they believe it is as reliable as possible. Attempting to offer similar advertising, sales and marketing that does not match the existing program is like trying to reinvent the wheel. Consider the program for making money online to be like a franchise of a business you are buying to operate your own restaurant. You probably would not last long selling soy burgers at a hamburger stand known for the quality of its beef.

By deviating from the program you are not giving any opportunity to make money online the chance it deserves to make you successful. By learning a little about Hyper Text Machine Language, the code that makes web sites appear on the internet, you can quickly learn to put affiliate advertising on your web site. However, if you have no idea and do not bother to learn how to promote your web site you would save time and money by printing out the ads and putting them in your desk drawer. The public will never see you web site or the ads.

Starting a business costs money. From the paper clips to the computers, new business owners find themselves bogged down with bills and dozens of decisions. However, though they might cost business owners a pretty penny, well made business cards have the potential to make or break a business. They are what the customer will pull out of his purse, and outside of the business itself reflect how professional the business really is, so consider your options when looking at business cards.

Always look at having the business cards professionally made. Many computer programs boast of their ability to create business cards, but many times home computers and printers do not reflect the same high quality that a professional printer would present and customers can tell. They will know if you chose to go cheap or to put your money into your company's image with a great business card.

With this in mind, know that you don't have to drop half of your small item budget on business cards either. Cost efficient options exist without the sacrifice for high quality cards. Online businesses can offer competitive prices that many local print shops cannot compete with, and they produce the same quality as those expensive printing companies. Many times online companies can offer cheaper prices because of their cheaper overhead: they exist in the virtual world alone and do not have a building to maintain or employees to pay.

When you opt for an online print shop, keep in mind some of the differences that you will encounter than when you walk into your local printer's shop. First of all, you will typically not have a hard copy to examine. The printer will send you a digital copy, and you'll have to make your decision based on that. Most of the time, however, you will receive exactly what you view.

Additionally, you will have to stick with the digital realm when providing a logo to your printer. You will not be able to show him a hard copy but instead you must present a digital version of your logo. Make sure that you give the printer the best quality logo possible because he can only work with what you give him.

Many online print shops offer affordable low quantity requirements as well, usually asking the customer to order no fewer than 100 to 250 cards per order. Some do stretch up to 500 minimum per order, but avoid having any more than this printed at once. After all, your contact information like your e-mail address or cell phone number just might change before you can distribute all of those cards. So keep your first orders low.

Every business needs business cards and thanks to these new online options, you don't have to watch your bottom line drop because of this necessity. Consider your options, and start ordering.

However, after your business grows, you might be able to rely completely on your online income and enjoy the freedom of working for yourself!

Consultations

One of the easiest ways you can make money online is by offering a consultation service. You can set up a business that really takes very little startup money and use your skills to consult others. You may be someone who is good at astrology. If that is the case, you might want to start your own horoscope site and offer "readings" to others.

If you are more corporate minded, you might be able to start a consulting newsletter and charge people for your insight and information. Whatever it is you are good at, you can certainly capitalize on it and create your own online business only using advertising and your website.

Crafts

You may be the type of person who loves to do crafts. In fact, you may spend the year making various crafts to take to craft shows. When you have access to the Web, you can sell your crafts right online, without ever having to drag your products to the shows and sit there for hours to sell them. If you can create unique enough products, you will be able to create a lovely business for yourself doing something you absolutely love.

Garage Sale Online

Just like the online auctions, you can create your own garage sale site online. You can use only your digital camera and a website to sell your used items right online. With this approach, there is no hassle of setting everything up in your yard or garage and you can deal with the money you make easier than you could when doing it the traditional way.

As you can see, you can take anything and create a great and unique way to make money online. Use your skills and talents to brainstorm an idea that will provide you with a creative outlet as well as a way to earn extra income. You can build yourself quite a business using things you are good at and the Web.

So you have a new and bright web site that you will be putting in circulation very soon, you will need advertising for this site to make a big splash on the market. How does one go about writing a big press release for an impending site introduction? You are not a lone if you are unsure on this but there are a few pointers to get you started and you can be successful at it at the same time.

Keeping in mind that you are going to need the public's attention on this media release, it is important to remember the fact that the news sells. What you need is very persuasive communication to get your point across. If an editor finds material that makes false promise of nonsense claims that are just not reasonably accepted, they will trash the media release. Some of the most common are one of a kind, changing the face of the planet, or everyone wins. The entire premise is to act and think like a reporter to get the word out in that media format. If the release is not in a journalistic format, it will not be taken seriously.

A good measure would be to make the title around ten words. keep it short to grab attention. Brief summary or the information should be in the headline and should be dynamic and bold. You are trying to reach the public. It should be as broad as a roadside sign or billboard. The best way to get a good review is to have the editor notice your release above all other and this can be done in just a few words. Just like all good journalists know the most potent and important part of the release is always the opening paragraph. This can be referred to as the summary lead. It is always the most important facet of any release that you incorporate the common 5 w's of journalism, not excluding the single and ever important h. who, what, when, where, and the single how are the mainstay in quality information that everyone truly looks for when reading a release. It is imperative on this note to include them.

This is the beef of the information with the introduction and the closing statements surrounding this bulk. It is the introduction that leads the readers down the path of craving more on the subject, so it must be powerful. This opening paragraph is what is known as the hook. This hook not only has to grab the audience's attention but the press and the editor as well. Not always an easy task. The hook in every sense of the word is strictly fact and not a method of persuasion to the masses.

------------------ ARTICLE START ------------------

There are some simple rules to follow when writing an advertisement to be placed in a newspaper, magazine, newsletter, or online classified section. This marketing method is easy and inexpensive, which makes it an excellent option for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The first thing you need to do is make it clear what you're selling. That's the first thing a buyer looks for. This means that the ad's headline is of the utmost importance. List exactly what you're selling in as straight-forward of a manner as possible. The most important thing you can do with your ad is to simply convey what it is you're trying to sell.

Don't forget to "sizzle" the product. Don't just say, "table for sale". List it as, "beautiful dining room table". This will catch the buyer's attention and sell your product faster. The same advice applies to classified ads offering services instead of material objects. Don't just place an ad with a headline of, "Work at Home". Everyone's seen these ads a million times and it's become easy to gloss over them and not pay that much attention to them. Instead write something engaging like, "Tired of Working for the Man?"

When writing anything, whether it's a classified ad, press release, brochure, or a novel for that matter, you always need to consider your audience. Who are your potential customers and clients? A product or service geared towards teens is going to demand a classified ad which is much different than an ad directed at older retired people.

Are you targeting people who know little about what you're selling, or are you looking for people who already know what you're talking about? This is important because you don't want to provide too little information, and you don't want to waste valuable space with unnecessary information. Knowing your audience will allow you to determine what information is necessary and what isn't.

If you're addressing an experienced crowd, you can use more technical or specialized nomenclature than if you're addressing novices. You need to convince readers that you have what they're looking for. In addition, you need to convince them that they should choose you or your product and not choose one of your competitors. A well-written, convincing, and interesting classified ad will be effective and boost your business.

In considering your audience, you also need to consider the medium itself. A classified ad placed in the local newspaper will probably be different from one placed on the internet. A classified ad placed in a specialized newsletter may have requirements or guidelines which are different from an ad placed in a magazine.

In addition to well-written, eye-catching product information, your classified ads need to contain the all-important contact information. This can be a phone number, PO box, email address, or web site address. Email addresses and web sites are becoming increasingly important. If you're offering anything technologically related, an email address is mandatory. It gives you credibility, as does a web site.

Classified advertising is an inexpensive way to promote your product or service. It's a good advertising option for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Research ads, study ones you see all the time, and don't be afraid to change up your ads if they're not working.

------------------ ARTICLE START ------------------

A display panel can be SD, or standard definition, ED, or enhanced definition, or HD, high definition. Displays are made up of individual picture elements, called pixels. Basically, the idea is the more pixels, the higher the resolution of an image. Thus, an SD display with a pixel count of 704 (horizontal) x 480 vertical) has less resolution than an ED display with 852 x 480 pixels. HD displays, which have even more pixels and are at the top of the resolution food chain for displays, come in three flavors: 720p, 1080i and 1080p. (More on the "i" and the "p" in a moment.)

A 720p HD display has 1280 pixels (horizontal) by 720 (vertical); 1080i and 1080p displays have 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels, or more than 2 million individual picture elements. The letters "i" and "p" stand for interlaced and progressive, respectively. Interlaced displays, like ordinary TV sets and 1080i HDTVs, paint individual lines of pixels back and forth top to bottom across the display on the odd numbered lines (in HDTVs those are 1, 3, 5...1079) first and then the evens (2, 4, 6...1080) before beginning the process over and over. Taken together the odd numbered line "field" and the even numbered line field create one "frame," or complete still image. There are 30 such frames displayed per second.

Progressive displays, like computer monitors and 1080p HDTVs, display lines sequentially (1, 2, 3... 1080) before beginning the process again. These 1080p HD displays paint 60 new still images on the screen every second. With twice the frame rate (60 versus 30),1080p demands twice the amount of data as 1080i.

That difference in frame rates means different things to different parties interested in high definition. To marketers using an HD as the display technology in a digital signage network, 1080p is the top-of-the-line image quality they can expect to achieve for the foreseeable future. If the message they are communicating requires the utmost resolution, 1080p may be the right choice. However, 1080p displays are more expensive and there will be a price to pay in terms of content storage required to drive that messaging.

To broadcasters who must work within the law administered by the FCC for transmission of HD, 1080p is too much. Simply given what they must work with, 1080p is beyond their capacity to deliver. Thus, 1080i and 720p are the broadcast HD formats.

To movie studios wishing to distribute their films in the highest display format available in the home, 1080p is the answer. Much of the buzz over Blu-ray and HD-DVD optical discs is in part about the ability of the competing formats to deliver superb image quality. Those formats -and their use of a blue frequency laser with a shorter wavelength that can write more data per area of storage- were designed to be able to write the all of the 1080p data to disk that's needed to playback a full-length movie plus bonus material.

But here's the most important party in the 1080p HD resolution equation: the audience. Whether you're a digital signage marketer, a broadcaster or a movie studio, you are faced with same question: How do I affordably deliver the level of quality to my audience that satisfies my desired communications goal? In other words, how much resolution is enough for the communications task at hand?

Only you can answer that question. To illustrate how subjective the answer is, consider this: ABC, ESPN, Fox and My Network TV rely on 720p, or 720 progressive lines, for HD service while NBC, CBS and PBS rely on 1080i. Perhaps before you decide which level of HD resolution is most appropriate for your high definition digital signage network, you should flip between ESPN's "Sportscenter HD" (720p), "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (1080i) and "March of the Penguins" (1080p) playing back from an HD-DVD player or "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (1080p) from a Blu-ray player on your 1080p display. You may be surprised by what you observe.

Don't be daunted by having to write a classified ad to sell your product or service. It's really not all that hard. Here are some classified ad writing strategies you can use now to sell your product or service and start making money:

First of all, study what successful marketers are doing. There's no better way to learn how to be successful at anything than by following what successful people do. Obviously can't copy a successful classified ad word-for-word but as you study these ads you'll start to see common elements which you can utilize in your own classifieds. Study the ads in the newsletters, newspapers, magazines, etc. which you're subscribed to or read regularly. Browse the internet and look and the text ads you see all over the place. Consider the ones you like and think about why you like them. Respond to the ads you like and see what response you get in turn. This will further enhance your understanding of the classified ad process and increase your chances of success.

Don't just look at classified ads, though. Larger scale ads can be educational, too. Look at what the big guys are doing with their conventional "junk mail", advertising inserts, and big, bright, colorful ads. While you're not looking to advertise on that scale, there are important tips and tricks you can learn by closely studying such campaigns.

There are plenty of web sites which allow you to place classified ads for free. This is a great way to practice writing ad copy. You have nothing to lose!

Don't sell expensive items directly from classified ads. Instead, provide basic information which encourages the reader to visit your web site or to email you. Then you can find the specifics on your site or through an auto-responder email message.

Advertise in more than one place at a time. It's not good to rely on just one publication to sell your product or service. By placing classified ads in multiple locations, you'll increase the number of eyeballs on your ads and increase the likelihood of success. Don't just place your ads willy-nilly, though. You need to target your ads. It doesn't make sense to sell skateboards on a fishing site site, or offer business advice in a kids magazine. Common sense can be your guide here.

Pay attention to who's responding to your classified ads. Never forget to follow up on inquiries. Be professional. Slow or non-existent responses will totally defeat the purpose of what you're trying to do. Don't just respond, but also keep records of your correspondence. Knowing who you're attracting with your classified ads will help you better target your readers. Keep track of which of your ads are finding success. Be aware of who they're attracting and where they were placed.

Perhaps most important of all, change your classified ads if they're not working for you. Don't ever give up! If you're not finding success, then do something different with your ads. If you place the same ad over and over again, you'll increase the chances that people will just ignore it. People love novelty, so change your ads periodically. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Placing classified ads is an excellent, cost-effective method for selling your product or service.

Local search is all the rage. At the 2007 Search Engine Strategies event in New York City there were presentations and exhibitors touting the importance of local search strategies and tactics.

It's like the presenters and exhibitors just discovered that people are really mostly interested in finding products and services nearby.

I guess what's really going on is that finally technology, or its application, has caught up with what people really want Internet search to do for them.

I use Internet search for everything - especially local! We haven't had a copy of the Yellow Pages (or white pages) in our apartment since we got high-speed access.

We Google directions to the Gap across town. If a movie is playing in Brooklyn we Google directions to the theater and buy the tickets online - so we can get in after we make the trek.

As a user we know all we need to know about local search. We type in what we want and where we want to get it and bingo - here it is and a map's included. It just doesn't get any better than that.

So, what's the big deal for business owners when it comes to local search in 2007?

It's leveling the field - putting the Main Street Companies we love doing business with right up there with their big box rivals.

How's that possible you ask? Well, here are three simple ways to maximize your over all search results using a local search focus.

Differentiation:
What makes your company different? What are the local aspects of your business? That's how you differentiate yourself from your competitors. Local search ads and placement provide the opportunity.

Would you rather eat spaghetti at a local franchise of a national chain or a locally owned Italian restaurant that's supported the community since 1963 - who supplies pizza for the area football team parents night and whose grand daughter won the state's citizenship award competition?

We do business with our friends. Local search provides us with the information we need to do so.

Reach Buyers When They're Ready To Buy:
Let's say I was looking for a health club membership to begin addressing my 2004 New Year's resolution. OK, so I've put it off a bit - but now I may be ready, so what's my number one criterion?

Location. It has to be as close to me as possible - so I'll be more likely to show up.

I may have been introduced to a certain company via their TV commercials. In our many walks around the various communities in New York I may have passed dozens of their health clubs. I may even know people who have a membership at one of them and swear by it.

But if I'm going to join one - it has to be in my neighborhood.

So I go online, do a local search, and find that they have a brand new heath club only a few blocks away. They even have printable coupons for various membership types. I'm doomed - my last really good excuse is gone.

Leverage All Your Touch Points
If your online goal is to simply drive people physically into your place of business you can provide them with directions to your place, a map, when you're open, etc. with your local search strategy.

Perhaps more importantly you can offer your customers additional options for doing business with you - which they did not know about.

Let's say you sell cement to contractors and homeowners. Your customers get it delivered to the job site or in their driveway - most of the time. No one ever comes by, even though you have people working there twelve hours a day seven days a week.

Local search can be used to tell people that you're open in case they need to pick up a few extra bags of Quickrete over the weekend. Or they can place an order online or on your 24 hour a day voicemail for next day delivery.

Effective local search tactics reaches local searchers when they are ready to buy - with every way that it is possible for them to buy from you.

At the Search Engine Strategies event the experts told us to adopt a search marketing strategy that has global reach (hey, you never know), regional implications, and connects with our local buying audience.

How is that possible? Let's take a top down look.

National Campaign:
For most companies this is best left to their manufacturers. Let General Motors create the buzz, show the new models, pitch the extraordinary value, and the environmental friendliness of their vehicles.

Let them do national TV and spend a bazillion dollars on search engine optimization, just push them to link to your company while they're at it. Hey, it's their brand; so let them do the branding.

You spend your money and energy with actions that result in sales for you.

Expanded regional Area Keyword Search:
There is an Auto Mall on I71 North of Cincinnati. I bet the dealers there sell most of their vehicles to folks who live north of downtown all the way up maybe 25 to 40 miles north of where the Mall is located.

People living a little farther north of that line may turn right when they get on I71 and head toward Columbus. People south of downtown Cincinnati cross the bridge into Northern Kentucky. On the east side of Cincinnati there is at least one huge Auto Mall siphoning off potential business as well.

Out of area local search can target these buyers telling them to come by your dealership for a comparison before they buy. If they do you guarantee to make it worth their time.

Tell them how long it will take on I275 from different parts of the metro area. And if they buy a new vehicle you'll give them an extra $500 off if they live more than so many miles away. You get the idea.

What's it worth to your business to increase your traditional marketing area by another 25 miles in every direction?

Local Relevance Promotions:
Don't forget the importance of dominating the market you're already in. A local search marketing strategy will help you solidify your base with a reminder that you're still there.

As a local business owner you are sought out by every community endeavor for your support. Local search provides an opportunity improve on your local relevance - why people should support your business. Local search gives you a chance to remind people of your commitment to them.

As with the Italian restaurant - I'll pay more money for new tires if given the chance to buy them from the nice people who sent the local high school band to New Orleans to play in the Sugar Bowl parade - even if it was a decade ago.

Compare that to saving a few bucks from a giant store where I am just a number and actually had to be there before 10am to qualify for the special price anyway.

Here are three things to keep in mind when considering your local search marketing strategy.

What do you really want?
How far can you haul gravel and still make money? How far can your service technicians travel and still at least break even? Do you simply want to dominate your traditional selling area or do you see local search as a way to gradually and systematically expand you company into a wider and wider area? Knowing this will help you when it comes to budgeting the resources required.

Who's willing to help you?
Will you highly respected manufacturer link to you in a way that helps raise your status with the search engines? Or will other companies join you in an effort to build your presence online collectively? Consider the Auto Mall - there must be a dozen of more dealerships all in one place. Working together with ad buys and pooling resources to hire SEO experts will benefit them all.

What's your budget?
Where's the money going to come from - your major distributors, your manufacturer, our your wallet? What's your stomach for online advertising? Do you have the people and the interest to do pay for performance ads? Or do you feel more comfortable with the idea of doing whatever SEO you can do easily, buy ads on a fixed rate basis like in the Yellow pages - and move on?

What it all boils down to is what's important to you.

For some maybe reading this article is enough. When they do whatever marketing and/or advertising they do in the future they'll factor some of these thoughts into their decisions.

Others will want to know more, this will have opened their eyes to some real possibilities they are missing - stuff they want to be doing before their competitors start doing them.

Is your business looking at sales lead generation? Like many businesses getting the right type of sales lead into your business is the key to it's success. I this article we will look at sales lead generation and the types of methods you can use to generate your own sales leads

There are a number of ways to generate your own sales lead. Below are the five key methods to sales lead generation.

1) Use direct mail. Direct mail is a great way to contact your prospects to turn them into sales leads. Using a simple offer letter, and sending it to your prospect could to into a sales lead. However, the best type of prospect to use this method on is your existing customers. By sending them an offer that is just for them for a limited time, will result in more sales for your business without having to generate a new lead. New leads are expensive to generate, so first and foremost you should approach your existing customers to generate more business.

2) Use the internet. Got a website? Earnt much money from it yet? Over 83.2% of small businesses are not making any return on investment from their websites. This is due to them not setting them up correctly to generate sales leads. Online lead generation is the quickest , cheapest and most effective way to get more business. With email free to sent, you can use it to generate both sales from existing customers and also use it for dales lead generation.

It is important that you set up your website correctly to get leads. You will need an auto responder to capture data and be abler to broadcast new messages to your visitors. Auto responders are cheap and cost from $20 a month, however I wouldn't recommend using the free services as they are usually unreliable and carry advertising that may distract your customer.

You will need to use a special report to grab peoples attention and get them to part with their details. A special report is a simple guide, like this article, to give some useful information regarding your product or service.

3)Use competitions. Why not run a competition to get visitors to your website or showroom. This tactic is a great way to generate leads for your business. Simply offer a prize in return for their details and ensure that to take part they must visit your website or showroom. You can easily get them to find a special code on your website or complete the form in your shop or showroom to enter. This works really well if you combine it with a special entry offer too. Such things as a big reduction to get them to buy their first purchase from you.

4)Trade shows and exhibitions. These are great places to find more sales leads because the visitors have made the effort to attend the show, so they are interested in what you have. The key to successful sales lead generation is to run a competition and capture as much data as possible and then approach the sales leads after the show. Very few companies actually do this, yet it the most powerful way to maximize a trade show or exhibition.

By allowing the visitor some time to breath after all your competitors attacked them at the show means that they are more likely to be receptive of what you have to say when they are in the comfort of their own home or office, when they attend a trade show or exhibition they are on guard as they know they are going to be sold to. By not selling to them and following up after the show you will get more sales leads.

5) Articles. These simple documents can generate tons of new sales leads into your business. All you need to do is sit down, write an article or two about your business and then submit it the hundreds of article directories there are on the internet. This will get you traffic to your website and as long as you have the data capture page there, you will capture new sales leads.

All in all to ensure your sales lead generation is to be successful you need to ensure you use more than one channel of marketing. If you find a channel that works then increase the exposure of that medium. Sales leads are easy to find all you need to do is ensure you set your proposition correctly to grab all the data you can and get the best value for money from your marketing. Sales lead generation does take some time and planning to execute, but if done correctly can reap the rewards and generation hundreds of new sale leads for you business every month for many years to come.

------------------ ARTICLE START ------------------

Finding new business leads is a hard task if you don't know how to do it. There are so many methods to getting access to apparently targeted business leads, yet upon my experience very prove to actual do what they promise, deliver me more business leads.

So what should you look for when you buy or generate your own business leads?

I have the following shortlist:

1 - A Lead is not a lead until it's raised its hand and requested information.

Too often companies that sell these targeted leads are merely just selling you names, emails etc that they have got off a disc from one of the big directory companies such as 192.com. They have not been marketed to about what you have to sell and have not expressed an interest in buying that product. Unfortunately there are too many companies that sell this type of data that turns out not to even raise a sale if you buy it.

2 - The business lead should have already bought something related to what you are selling.

This point is crucial. If your lead has already bought a related product or service then it is highly likely that they will be happy to hear about and possibly buy your product. There are very few companies that actually sell this data. The best way to get access to this type of data is to list a number of related businesses to your product and then approach then to see if they would let you contact their database and via versa. By doing this you are achieving a couple of very valuable things. Firstly you are adding value to your business be accessing for little or no cost a whole group of new business leads and secondly you are forming a good relationship with another business that you can later promote your products together in bundles or specials.

I use this method time and time again to gain access to more business leads and it is highly profitable and always delivers a consistent stream of more business leads.

3 - Always ensure that the business lead is fresh

Too often data sold is months or years old. If someone signed up for an offer on a home improvement website 12 months ago it is likely that they have now completed all the work they wish to do, so if you buy the lead and want to sell your home improvement loans then it is unlikely you will get any new leads.

Timing is crucial in converting prospects to leads and leads to sale. The fresher the data the greater the chance that it will convert into a business lead. Always check the sell by date of a list as to when it was last sold to or communicated with, this will also help you by not wasting money on a dead list.

4 - Cheap business leads are just that cheap!

Be warned if it's to good to be true, then it's likely it is. If you get approached to buy leads for $1 a time that are apparently highly targeted and ready to buy, walk away. In my experience the minimum cost of a quality lead starts at $10+. Anything less that this means that the data is poor and probably has been scrapped from someone or somewhere and will not deliver you more business leads.

Always ask for references before buying any data. Any reputable company will be able to put you in touch with satisfied customers of theirs to confirm how good the data is. If they can't then it is likely the data is poor and won't produce you any more leads.

5 - Ask how they develop the business leads

Ask the company what methods they use to generate the leads they sell to you. Do they use websites, telemarketing, advertising, competitions etc? By knowing how they generate the data will help you get a better idea of how to approach the business lead to get the best possible result. If for example they have been generated online, then contacting them via email would be best as they are used to that medium.

All in all if you are looking to generate more business leads then you need to use common sense and stick by the points I outlined in this article. If you do then your lead generation will be successful and you will get more business leads into your business. So don't take any chances with the data or leads you are buying. Ask the right questions to get the answers you want, if the lead company can't deliver or answer what you want then approach another one as there are thousands of business lead companies out there.

------------------ ARTICLE START ------------------

The most obvious thing about digital signage is the display panel. It's the first thing you see, and probably the last thing you think about once it's hung and showing the content you want others to see.

But did you know that just because your digital signage messaging is playing back on a flat panel plasma or LCD that it's not necessarily being shown in HD quality? While they're somewhat less common today, for the past few years display makers have marketed right next to the HD panels- something known as ED panels or TVs. EDTV stands for "Enhanced Definition Television" -something that's better, to be sure, than the ordinary television in most homes across America, but nowhere near as good as HDTVs and HD monitors. So, what makes one panel "enhanced" and another "high-def"? Basically, its pixels, scanning and terminology.

Pixels first
If your interest in digital signage is more about what it can do for you than how it does it, you might not be very familiar with some of the basics. First, a pixel is a picture element. Many say it's the smallest picture element in a display, but maybe a better way to think of it is as the smallest whole picture element in a display. That's because just like Gaul, all pixels are divided into three parts -red, green and blue. Those parts are often referred to as sub-pixels. But for the sake of this discussion, let's stick with pixels.

In plasmas and LCDs, pixel count is pretty cut-and-dry. These displays are made up of rows and columns of picture elements or pixels. An SD panel -or standard definition panel, the closest thing to your ordinary home TV- will have 480 rows and 720 pixels across. EDTVs have the same number of rows, 480, and 853 pixels across.

Besides having about 20 percent more pixels across, another important distinction between the two is the type of scanning used. An SD display is interlaced just like your fingers are when you do "Here's the church, and here's the steeple...." Drawing one complete picture, or frame, in an interlaced display requires the monitor to scan the odd number rows in an image sequentially first, i.e. 1, 3, 5 etc. and then the even numbered rows 2, 4, 6 etc. Together those two interlaced "fields" make up a frame. There are about 60 fields per second, or about 30 frames per second in SD video. (I won't trouble you with the why regarding the term "about.")

These interlaced fields are displayed so quickly that the scanned odds are still aglow, although decaying, while the evens are being scanned. However, that decay in the glow and constant refresh account for a flicker that's visible to some.

ED monitors are progress scan displays. Like computer monitors, they scan lines, 1, 2, 3, etc. all the way to line 480. It's the greater number of pixels and this progressive scanning that makes them better than SD, or in other words, enhanced.

Enter HD
HD or high definition can produce a view of the world that's lifelike. If you doubt that, flip on the Discovery Channel and then flip over to Discovery HD on an HDTV. You will be amazed.

There are many different types of high definition standards, but you only have to be concerned about a few things when it comes to digital signage. First and foremost, HD is pixel count. If it's got at least 1280 x 720 pixels, it qualifies as HD. However, here's where things get a little confusing. HDTV and monitors also come with 1920 pixels across and 1080 pixels vertically, and they come with lots of different pixel counts in between. Those "tweeners" have more to do with the manufacturing capabilities and priorities of the company making the panel than they do with the actual HD standard.

Not quite as they seem
Without a doubt, HDTVs are burgeoning in the home and HD panels are becoming popular displays for digital signage. Their ability to reproduce lifelike images is breathtaking. That's powerful clay in the hands of digital signage sculptors.

But don't be confused. Just because a panel is flat, it's not necessarily HD. Look for the panel's resolution in pixels. Find out what type of scanning it uses. Together, those two pieces of information
can tell you what you're looking at, even if your eyeballs aren't sure. It can also save you the headache of mistakenly acquiring the ED monitors that seemed like a steal when you thought you were buying HD.

Having a home based business is great - you can set your own hours, work in your pajamas, and be there for your children and your family at any time. So, when it comes down to it, advertising your home based business the affordable way is an absolute must, because you normally have a small budget, to start with.

You have to be able to draw people in, and you need customers in order to have your website work. You have to have traffic to, whatever site you have, for your home business, and this is important to do, no matter what type of home business you have.

However, not a lot of people that start up a home based businesses are wealthy to start with, and you might find that you don`t really have a budget for advertising. But if you have just started your home based business you might look for an affordable way to advertise, to keep your budget. It is very important to set up a budget, when you start a business online or offline, and to keep the budget.

There are many ways to get lots of advertising but it must be affordable for you. There are things that you can do with limited funds, to make sure that you are getting the customers that you need. First of all, you have to be sure that you are putting up advertising in the correct place.

Are you having a business from home that caters to just your area, such as a hair salon or a photography businesses? If so, then your advertising should be in print, because you don`t need the whole world to see it.

If you are localized, don`t bother spending your money on internet advertising, just do print advertising with your website on it. This is the best way to advertise, and you can always do this affordable by finding a cheap place to have posters and business cards made up.

Advertising your home based business the affordable way could also be fun, because you get in touch with a lot of people when you hang up posters at your local supermarket.

Some of the best advertising in the world is FREE. The best place for your business to be positioned is to be the business on the tips of the tongues of the people asked to make the referral. Tell Your Friends, Family & Everyone You Can About Your new business. It`s called word of mouth. You can do it in person, with a personal letter, a phone call or with an Email.

When your friend is asked to make a referral, they will recommend you. When people ask your friends for a referral and your friend mentions your business, that is passive referral networking.

Active referral networking is when you can get your friends go directly to their friends and say "Hey, I have a friend who just started a business. If you are in need of what he offers or you know someone who will need his services, would you please give my friend a call or make the referral to his business?"

If you can get even a portion of the people in your own circle of influence to actively refer your business, then you have built the foundation to build an advertising campaign even more effective than the average local television advertising campaign.

However if you are running a home based business that is on the internet, this means that you want the whole world to have access to it. In this case, you could also put up flyers in your home town at the local merchant and supermarket.

You can find many free online blogs, that will let you post a link to your site, and there are many places that you can get your name out there. The fact remains that you just have to do it - you have to spend several days surfing the web and getting your name out there in whatever way that you can.

Running a home based business offline or online is the same ,when It comes to advertising the affordable way. The point is that you must always remember to advertise or your business will die slowly because no one know where to find you.

Now you have to get your podcast out into the world to be heard. Many broadcasters to simply podcast for personal interest or to get their opinions out into the world, don't bother to market their podcast. And perhaps, if you have a small and faithful following that might be all you're interested in.

For example, maybe you are pastor at a church and it doesn't matter to you other people outside of your congregation hear your podcasts, as long as they are available for your parishioners. That's fine.

But there are many people, especially business podcasters, who need to be heard. Perhaps you need to be heard because of the importance of your sell your product and put food on the table, whatever the reason is, you need to do your podcast out there.

The first in you want to do is submit your podcast to the podcast hosting sites mentioned in a previous chapter. If you haven't done that already, take time to be that right away. Don't just submit to one, submit to all of them.

The next thing you need to do is to make sure that your marketing material (if you are a business) contains the web site on which your podcast is hosted. For example, if your company has a web site, make sure it's on your marketing material.

Then go on to your company's web site and make sure that the podcast is easy to see. Lots of companies have very busy web sites which makes it difficult to notice if there are new items on the page. You might also want to put on your marketing material something along the lines that of "subscribe to our podcast."

Just plunking down your podcast on your web site and a web address on your marketing material will not get you very many subscribers. It could get some calm and that's great, but just like any other product that you sell you need to give people a reason to subscribe to your podcast.

If you haven't noticed, this article talks about content and niche marketing but the underlying secret of both of those is value. When you offer a value, people will come to you. If your product solves a problem, they will buy it from you.

If your service benefits someone, they will buy it from you. If your podcast helps them in some way, they will subscribe to it or even buy it from you.

So how do you make your podcast provide value? This article, and previous article, give lots of ideas to help provide value: people are looking for interesting and engaging entertainment, information, and instruction to listen to at their convenience. That's what podcasting is all about. Those three things:

1. Interest and engagement. (Is the format varied and easy to listen to?)

2. Entertainment, information, instruction. (Is the content of high quality?)

3. Convenience. (Is it an appropriate length and updated with appropriate frequency?)

That is the best test to ensure that your podcast provides value. If it does not to fulfill all three things than you'll find your subscribership will diminish over time.

Here is another exercise that will help you determine your value to your subscribers. If you have spent any time in sales or as an entrepreneur you'll probably already familiar with this, but it is a good exercise to do nonetheless, since it is often overlooked in the podcasting industry.

Features and Benefits of your podcast

1. One one side of a piece of paper, list the features of your podcast. Leave plenty of lines under each feature. What are features? The topic is a feature, the length is a feature, the frequency you update it is a feature, it's a feature if two people host the show, the format can be a feature, and your variety and quality of content is a feature.

2. On the other side of the paper, list the benefits: what it is about those features that subscribers will find helpful. For example, CNN provides very short podcasts of excellence depth. Those are features. The benefits are that the listener will save time and become well informed.

3. Determine if there is one or two of those benefits that set you apart from other podcasts in a similar category. For example, perhaps you can provide the same depth of coverage on a sports team as another podcast, but you can do it with greater frequency or with more expert analysis. (Of course those of the features, but the benefits are that your subscriber can save time and increased knowledge by become better informed more frequently).

4. Now promote those benefits!

This is a classic feature/benefits exercise from sales training 101. It is often overlooked in podcasting because podcasting is such a personal medium and its brand-new so people are pushing the boundaries in spite of the lack of benefits to their listeners.

Pushing the boundaries is okay if that's what you want to do, but if your interest is in gaining subscribers or in making money from podcasting, then you'll want to discover the benefits of your podcast and promote them.

If you can drive people to your web site, you might be able to you post a couple benefits beside your podcast link. Or, if your marketing material has enough room, you can put those benefits right under your heading "subscribe to our podcast".

You might also find that, although they may appreciate the benefits and value that you provide, they may be scared off by how "technologically advanced" it seems to them.

Rather than calling it a podcast, you may want to call it an online audio program or an Internet radio show. It may not be exactly accurate, but it's a lot easier then telling people that it's a podcast and spending half an hour explaining it to them and telling them why they don't need an iPod to hear you.

You may also want to you pay other people to host affiliate advertising to send an end to your site if you are creating a podcast for people to pay to listen to.
These concepts are covered in a little greater detail in another article, but it is appropriate to mention them here at something else to think about in marketing your podcast.

The best form of advertising for any kind of business is word of mouth advertising. It he can get your search drivers to be your biggest supporters and talk about you all the time to their friends, you won't have any problem getting subscribers. How do you do that? (You should be able to answer this in your sleep by now: content, niche markets, benefits).

It is still very early in the industry, but it won't be long before you see referral marketing programs that give subscribers some kind of discount or freebie for getting other people to subscribe to a podcast. With a little creativity, you may be able to start doing this right now.

Getting subscribers is all about providing value. If people see the value, they will subscribe. Tell them about your program, tell them what the value is to them, and tell them how to subscribe, and tell them to get their friends to subscribe, and you should not have any problem building up a big list of subscribers.

And with this audience, you'll be able to get your views heard and maybe even make some money!

Lead generation is fast becoming the new trendy term amongst internet marketers and business owners. In fact lead generation is nothing new. It's been around for years, it
has been used successfully in direct marketing channels before such as direct mail, direct advertising and even on product launches.

So why now the sudden hype around lead generation? Well, one reason is that online lead generation is a cost effective way of generating an income for websites that make them profitable to run.

If your are currently not using lead generation on your website then you are missing out on generating new business or sales leads that can become very profitable for your web business.

With advertising costs increasing and competition getting smarter it is important that you get the highest possible visitor value for your traffic. If you are only presenting your visitors with Adsense or affiliate ads then you are missing out on much higher revenues if you don't include a lead generation form on the primary page of your site.

So what websites can you use this method of revenue generation on? Well most websites, particularly niche websites are a potential great lead generation source. By capturing all the information about a visitor by offering them a special report or free e course on the product or service your website covers, you will be then able to sell on the lead to a local or national business for a small fee.

By selling on your data too, is another great way to increase your profits. If you have a large set of data then you can easily approach another related business and offer them to do a mailing share to promote both their products and yours. This works very well in increasing their customer base, sharing the cost of a mailing to your customers and also earns some income along the way.

Online lead generation and in particular using email broadcasts in the auto responder service it is also possible to do a similar thing. You can offer to promote a related product or service to your list and via versa. Again this is increasing your customer exposure and if you agree on a small fee to do this you will also earn a small income before you have even sold anything.

In all in lead generation can work both offline and online very effectively for your business. It will allow you to grow your business and eliminate the issues of slack times as you will have a complete data set of your customers that you can contact via direct mail, email or telemarketing to increase your sales. This will deliver sales if you adopt a consistent strategy and perform at least one contact a week with your database.

By keeping contact with your customers in this manner increases your brand awareness and will deliver you sales in the long term, this means you can cut the risk out of advertising. By ensuring you have any new potential customer put into a systematic marketing system for lead generation, you will be able to spend more on advertising as you know that the system will produce a steady supply of sales leads into your business.

Using email is the most cost effect method to keep constant contact with you sales lead. Email is free and you can contact your customers in minutes informing them of new offers, events and special discounts. This method of marketing means you can future proof your business using lead generation. Email marketing though does have some drawbacks, it can sometimes be difficult to get your message through Spam filters and once you have there is no guarantee that it will get read by your customer.

The best method of lead generation marketing is to ensure you use all the fields of data you captured. By sending an email and then a direct mail piece means that there is a much greater chance of your customer taking action and contacting you to buy your product or service.

If you need to increase your sales and profits then lead generation is the answer for you. It's a simple method that has benefits to your business. It can deliver you sales but also build you a potential database of customers that you can contact in the future to sell more or other related products and services.

There is no doubt that lead generation will become recognized as the primary function for many sites as it can deliver an income, build a list or prospects and also give your website the edge over its competitors. Start your lead generation now and un tap the last profit stream on the internet.

Here we go with a few tips that might be useful for you (or your designer) you when creating the next Advertising to be broadcasted on your LEDwall. If you want to get the most out of your LEDwall (and your Customers) in terms of recognition from the audience, this article will tell which are the worst mistake people make when creating a new ad. If you don't have a LEDwall yet, but you are thinking about getting one to start your advertising business, I'm sure you will find the next few posts very interesting as well. So lets start.

First of all, the ad duration: some people make the huge mistake of creating 30/40 seconds ads. 30 seconds? Are you crazy people? Your audience is not sitting on a sofa waiting for the next TV show! They are most probably driving-by at 30/40 km per hour and hopefully they are more focused on the street rather than your screen.

Still they should be able to see the entire Ads, from start to end while passing by. So what's the point of creating a wonderful Ad, if they can not read the advertiser's phone number and address at the end because the ad is too long?! From my experience an Ad should be maximum 10 seconds in length (rarely 15).

Longer ads are pointless because either your target sees the beginning but not the end, or vice-versa. In both cases, 1. you didn't get the message across, 2. the audience did not find an interesting message on your LEDwall, therefore will have no interest in doing it again in the future and 3. your Customer didn't get much in return for his investment, which should be your very first concern if you want him to come and buy your services again in the future.

Of course there are exceptions to the "10 seconds" general rule, say for LEDwalls installed in pedestrian areas, where people have more time to watch the LEDwall. But as I said, those are exceptions. They are rare. And anyways 30 seconds is still too much, even in these cases.

If you read my past articles, you know why text and numbers appear blurry on a LEDwall with virtual pixel. You can not solve that, but at least try not to make it worse! The first rule of formatting when creating text (ie. the address, phone number etc) for a LEDwall AD is... Ready? Make letters BIIIG! At least 1/4 of the screen! I cant understand those designers that create super small text, that might look nice on their PC or MAC monitor when they create it, but its terrible when broadcast on the LEDwall.

Second rule of formatting: do not apply shades or glossy effects on text. Get it? As said before, this fancy effects might look nice on the monitor, but they definitely they are not cool on the LEDwall. The reason for it is that, despite of its huge size, the LEDwall has actually less pixels than you PC monitor. Much less pixels. So it is pointless to create special shining effects on a 5 centimetres letter that look big on a PC but its invisible on a LED screen.

Third rule of formatting: use sans serif fonts only. If the text looks blurry on the LEDwall, we should make any possible effort to make things better. Serif fonts (ie. Courier, Times New Roman etc) are very nice on the PC monitor but they do have the serifs which add pointless "noise" to the text and make it look less clear. Imagine this situation amplified by the "blurry" effect of the virtual pixel. Not good.

Instead use Sans Serif fonts such as Verdana or Tahoma, as they appear much more readable on the LEDwall. And if you absolutely have to use a "noisy" font, at least please use it in big size.

Fourth rule of formatting: use contrasting colors. Over 20 years ago Ms Karen Claus published a table, indicating the color-match with the best contrast ratio. She did it for the classic static signage, but the principle is still valid today. According to her research and studies, the best matches are: black on yellow; black on white; yellow on black; white on blue; yellow on blue; green on white; blue on yellow; white on green. Please use text colors in such combinations and try to avoid such things as pink-on-red.

Fifth rule of formatting: the most plain the text is, the better. On LEDwalls, you have 10/15 seconds to make your ad memorable. It means that if the text is not clear at the first sight, people wont give it a second chance. Remember that they are most probably driving at about 35 km/h and hopefully they are more concerned about the road rather than about a fuzzy headline.

Having a home business is great - you can set your own hours, work in your pajamas, and be there for your children and your family at any time. You can also vacation when you want to and you can take care of all kinds of things right from home. It can be a great life, and you can really enjoy it, but the key to having a home business that is successful is making sure that you have clients that are going to want to have your services and that are going to want to have you do things for them in exchange for money.

So, when it comes down to it, advertising is an absolute must. You have to be able to draw people in and you need customers in order to have your website work. You have to have traffic to whatever site you have for your home business and you have to be sure that you are getting business. This is important to do no matter what type of home business you have.

However, not a lot of people that start up home businesses are wealthy to start with, and you might find that you don't really have a budget for advertising. When this happens it is important to remember that you have to be able to budget not only your time, but a little bit of money, towards advertising.

There are many ways to get lots of business, cheaply. There are things that you can do with limited funds to make sure that you are getting the customers that you need. First of all, you have to be sure that you are putting up advertising in the correct place. Are you having a business from home that caters to just your area, such as a hair salon or a photography businesses?

If so, then your advertising should be in print, because you don't need the whole world to see it. If you are localized, don't bother spending your money on internet advertising, just do print advertising with your website on it. This is the best way to advertise, and you can always do this cheaply by finding a cheap place to have posters and business cards made up.

However if you are running a home business that is on the internet, this means that you want the whole world to have access to it. In this case, don't bother putting up flyers in your home town, work on internet advertising. You can find many free blogs that will let you post a link to your site and there are many places that you can get your name out there. The fact remains that you just have to do it - you have to spend several days surfing the web and getting your name out there in whatever way that you can.

Here are 5 ways to advertise your home business for free on the internet:

1. Trade links with other web sites. They should be related to the subject of your web site. Instead of trading links, you could also trade banner ads, half page ads, classified ads, etc.

2. Start an e-zine for your web site. When people read each issue they'll be reminded to revisit your web site. They'll see your product ad more than just once which will increase your orders.

3. Form an online community. It could be an online message board, e-mail discussion list or chat room. When people get involved in your community they will regularly return to communicate with others.

4. Write articles and submit them to e-zines, web sites and magazines that accept article submissions. Include your business information and web address at the end of the article.

5. Give away an electronic freebie with your ad on it. Allow your visitors to also give the freebie away. This'll increase your ad exposure and attract people to your web site at the same time.

As you will know, eBay gets serious traffic. In fact, something like 2 million individual buyers visit eBay each day ready to make bids and purchases online.

And eBay is more than just oddities and collectibles - it is huge, huge business. In the first quarter of 2006, eBay members sold around $12.5 billion dollars worth of goods and services to over 193 million registered users.

What I find difficult to understand is why businesses of all sizes don't use eBay more as an additional channel to sell their wares.

If you have expertise in selling on eBay, then you are nicely positioned to take that experience and apply it to the benefit of your business or your employer's business.

If you own a business which doesn't use eBay, you really should be putting your eBay skills to good use. Or if you work for a company, why not offer an eBay service to your employer in return for a commission or other payment?

This doesn't mean that anyone should neglect their current marketing and sales methods and transfer everything to eBay. eBay should be viewed as a new and different channel to market. As you know, eBay is a receptive market which is massive, and upon which there are many ways to make it work for your business or your employer's company.

If you're the owner or employee in a bricks-and-mortar business such as a retail outlet, eBay can be a great source of extra sales.

Since you're already buying wholesale for your local market, it doesn't take a lot of extra effort to offer your goods online as well. This is especially effective for locally made, unique, or specialty items.

If you can ship your items for a reasonable price to customers who can't find it anywhere else, it would be quite easy to make additional profits.

And whether you have an online OR offline business, eBay is a great place to clear out old stock, and overstocks.

The same goes for returns or damaged stock. As long as you're honest about the condition and pay attention to your customer service, you can start building a reputation in the eBay community that will lead to more sales down the road.

No matter what kind of business you have (even if you don't have your own business yet!), with a market of 193 million eager buyers just waiting for your offer, eBay is one of the easiest ways to develop an extra revenue stream and boost your sales and profits each year!

Knowing who the sources of money are likely to be for your non-profit, you will want to figure out how to contact the largest amount of them most effectively. You will of course want to know where to find the donors that can help your group succeed. There are several ways to get in touch with the groups and people who can help you:

The library: Well before you start your fundraising efforts, you will want to frequent your local library. Your local library, as part of your community and a great information resource, is indispensable for your non-profit. Your librarian can help you find directories of government grants and programs that can help you, and can show you business directories that can help you find companies who may be willing to sponsor your non-profit.

Advertising: Many non-profits will seek donors by advertising in newspapers, on radio, and on television. Larger non-profits such as the United Way will often advertise year-round in order to encourage donors to come forward. However, even smaller non-profits will advertise locally.

You may well have seen your local food bank or shelter advertising for food and cash donations around holiday time, for example. Advertising tends to reach lots of people for the cost of one ad, even though individual ads in newspapers and radio can be quite expensive on their own. However, some non-profits find that they can sometimes appeal to a radio or local television station or publication to advertise for free. Even though the media makes their money through advertising revenues, they are occasionally persuaded to offer free advertising as a charitable contribution to a non-profit.

Plugging into the Community: Most small non-profits are very community oriented - most of their money and most of their charitable activities are centered on one local area. If this describes you, then you need to become a part of your community so that donors in your area will become aware of your group.

When people see that your group is offering something to the community, they may be more inclined to donate. Plugging into the community may mean showing up for local events with group advertisements, taking out ads in local media, or passing on the word through word of mouth. Whichever methods you choose, it is often very important for a small or starting non-profit to be seen as part of the community in order to secure donations.

Direct Appeals: Direct appeals mean that you approach people individually. This can be done door-to-door, by standing in front of a store or establishment, or by phoning or mailing people individually. The idea is that direct appeals are harder to resist than general appeals, and so more people are likely to at least give some money rather than say "no" entirely. The problem is that so many companies use this route that some individuals feel that this method is too intrusive and refuse every direct appeal made.

Awareness Raising: You will find some enthusiastic donors and some volunteers and resources by letting people know about the problem your group is trying to correct and by telling people about your non-profit group itself. Raising people's awareness about your group and your groups' work is a big job. You can raise awareness in many ways:

Reports in the media (interviews, articles)

Advertising

Visiting groups such as schools to let people know about your group

Setting up booths at fairs, volunteer workshops, and other community events

Going door to door to tell people about your group

Sending mail campaigns to raise awareness

Setting up events that will raise awareness (and money, too)

Market Research: Every successful non-profit needs to do exact market research in order to find out who the most likely donors are for their group. There are market research firms that can do this for a sum, but if you are a small or new non-profit, you can do your own market research by using newspapers and your own community knowledge to find out who will be most likely to support your group.

Most people think of eBay as a place where you sell physical items. They often start by selling unwanted bits and pieces from the attic, moving on to other things in the garage and, if it takes a hold, venturing into the market of buying items to sell.

Not many people associate eBay as a place where you can sell a service.

Let's imagine I want to offer my services as a French language teacher. Where else do you know that you can advertise for 10 days, reach an audience of millions and only pay a few pounds or dollars in fees?

I can easily create an auction with my language services such as teaching, proofreading, editing etc. I list my qualifications and any appropriate memberships I have. I also include a photo of myself - making it personal.

What I am really doing with this auction is selling myself.

I would start the auction at a minimum hourly rate, and probably have a Buy it Now hourly rate too.

I know of a guy who lives in Germany and offered English language services on eBay.de. Within days he received work, and had to re-list many times as his Buy it Now rate was being taken up regularly. He gained commercial and private customers alike.

I also heard of a group of computer programmers who were made redundant after their jobs went "offshore". Having found it difficult to find new jobs, they decided to turn to eBay. Their ideal was to stay together as a team of software developers. So they created an auction to give the winning bidder the rights to negotiate exclusively for their services. The winning bid amount would go to a charity.

They started the bidding at $250, and the auction went well. They did indeed find an employer who wanted to take the whole team. And the group made several hundred dollars for their charity. A highly satisfactory outcome!

If you have a skill, expertise and qualification, why not enlist the power of eBay to sell yourself?
